Lakefield Township Early Pioneers of Saginaw County, Michigan

     William and Emma Button Tester                

William Tester was born on October 11, 1852/1853/1855? in Walsingham, Norfolk County, Canada to Henry "William" and Emily Rebecca Bristow Tester.  William married Emma Margaret Button of Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan on March 31, 1894 in Lakefield Township.  Emma was born August 10, 1872 in Brady Township, Saginaw County, Michigan; her parents were William and Emma Cody Tolfree Button.

 

In 1896,  William and Emma Tester lived in Section 22 on S. Fenmore Road just north of Nelson Rd. in Lakefield Township. Their neighbors were William's  brothers, George and Charles Tester. William's other brother, Thomas Tester and his sister, Anna Elizabeth Tester Ferris, wno lived beside one another, were living on S. Merrill Road, three miles away.  By 1904, William and Emma were living in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan. 

 

William died November 23, 1933 in Pinconning, Bay County, Michigan and Emma Margaret died August 6, 1921 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan. They are both buried in Richland Cemetery, Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.

 

William and Emma Tester had the following children.

 

 

1. John Cook Tester was born March 12,1895 in Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan.  He married Ruth Herman on February 12, 1914.  John's occupation was a mechanic.  John died on January 4, 1933 in the Pontiac State Hospital, Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan at the age of 37 years old.  He was buried on January 7, 1933 at the Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak, Oakland County, Michigan.

2. Anna Mary Tester was born on February 8, 1899? in Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan.  She married Charles A. Rose on March 30, 1918 In Sault Sainte Marie Chippewa, Michigan by T.R. Easterday, Am.Ph.D. Presbyterian Minister; their witnesses were Mrs. Stacey Newell of Gaylord, Michigan and Elizabeth Sawyers of Sault Ste. Marie.    Anna died on January 6, 1985 in Ramsey County, Minnesota and is buried Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota.

3. Emma Millicent (twin) Tester was born September 11, 1900 in Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan. She married Coleman G. Wiltfong on September 25, 1918 in West Branch, Mi.   Emma also married Charles Wesley Zimmerman on July 14, 1928 in North Star, Gratiot County, Michigan.  Emma died on June 10, 1971 in Ithaca, Gratiot County, Michigan and is buried in the Hamilton Township Cemetery in Ithaca4.

4.   Lida Lillian (twin) Tester was born September 11, 1900 in Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan.  Lida married Joseph John Stone.  Lida died on August 17, 1983 in Standish, Arenac County, Michigan.  She is buried in Churchill Township Cemetery, Selkirk, Ogemaw County, Michigan. 

5.   Eva Amanda Tester was born April 5, 1902 in Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan.  She married Leo Peterson on October 8, 1917 in Churchill, Michigan by R.E. Burr, a Clergyman; their witnesses were Fred and Jennie Schram. Eva died on September 4, 1987 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan and is buried in Churchill Township Cemetery, Selkirk, Ogemaw County, Michigan.

6.   Daniel William Franklin Tester was born March 11, 1904 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan. He married Edna Courier on February 1, 1927 in Pinconning, Bay County, Michigan by A.J. Flajole, a R. C. Priest; their witnesses were Alfred Courier and Julia Rackes.  Daniel died in Pinconning, Bay County, Michigan and is buried in Saint Michaels Cemetery in Pinconning,

7.   George Joseph (twin) Tester was born April 11, 1906 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.  In 1940, George was living in San Mateo, California with his wife, Bessie and his mother in law Hazel Smith.  George died on May 22, 1978 in Saint Lucie, Florida.

8.   Georgia Josephine (twin) Tester was born April 11, 1906 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan. Georgia died on October 3, 1906 in Richland Township,  Ogemaw County at five months and seven months old and is buried in the Richland Township Cemetery in Prescott.

9.   Charles Mathew Tester was born August 11, 1907 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.  He died on September 20, 1979 in Prescott and is buried in Richland Township Cemetery in Prescott.  

10. Edward James (twin) Tester was born February 9, 1909 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.  In 1940, he was living in Porter Township, Midland County, Michigan.  He enlisted twice in the U.S. Army - enlisted June 4, 1941 and discharged on September 1941 and then again enlisted into the Army on February 3, 1942 and discharged on October 12, 1945.   He maried Dorothy I. Fritz on October 27, 1946 at Zion Church of the Brethren, Ogemaw County, Michigan. In 1950 Edward lived with his wife and family in Richland Township, Ogemaw County, Michigan.   Edward died on May 26, 1990 in Standish, Arenac County, Michigan and is buried in Mount Forest Township Cemetery, Pinconning, Bay County, Michigan.

11.  Edna Jane (twin) Tester was born February 12, 1909 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.  She married Patrick Fegan.  Edna also married Aarthur Earl Hall.  Edna died on February 22, 1985 in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan and is buried in the Logan Township Cemetery, Logan Township, Ogemaw County, Michigan.

12. Leonard Erwin (twin) Tester was born on December 12, 1910 in Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan. He married Helen Higby.  Leonard also married Sarah McDonald on April 29, 1935 in Lakefield Township by Alvah Hinterman, Justice of the Peace; their witnesses were John J. Etta Tester Harris. Leonard died on May 19, 1971 in Midland, Midland County, Michigan and is buried in Richland Township Cemetery, Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.

13, Lena E. (twin) Tester was born on December 12, 1910 in Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan.  She married John Glen Smith March 10, 1927 in Midland, Midland County, by Ralph J. Hyde, a Probate Jude; witnesses were Henry and Gladys Zimmerman.  Lena died on March 10, 1999 and is buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery, in Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan.

14. Etta Almeda Tester was born June 15, 1913 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.  She married John Jacob Harris on June 29, 1929 in Midland, Midland County, Michigan by J.O.L. Spracklin, Minister of M.E. Church; their witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. John G. Smith. Etta died on July 5, 1991 in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan and is buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery, Lakefield Township, Merrill, Saginaw County, Michigan.

15. Isaac E. Tester was born March 20, 1916.  Issac of (Lafayette Township, Gratiot County, Mi) married Ruth Hopkins of (Wheeler Township, Gratiot County, Mi) on May 1, 1937 in Breckenridge, Gratiot County, Michigan by Irving Hoose, Minister; their witnesses were Mary Ellen and Howard Hopkins. Isaac worked in construction. He died  December 6, 2001 in Alma, Gratiot County, MI. and is buried in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Breckenridge, Gratiot County, Mi.

16. Stella Louise Tester was born on September 30, 1918 in Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.  She died on February 25/26, 1922 in the Village of Turner, Arenac County, Michigan at the age of three years and six months old of pneumonia.   Stella is buried in the Richland Township Cemetery, Prescott, Ogemaw County, Michigan.
