Fred Coty Sr.

FREDERICK AND MARIA MCCONNELL COTY

 

 

 

Frederick Coty was born in June 1862 in Maine; his father was Frederick Coty. He married Maria E. McConnell. Maria was born in 1863 in Canada, to Thomas and Sarah Shanon McConnell.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fred and Maria had the following children:

  1. Frederick Coty Jr. was born March 17, 1889 in Lakefield Township. Fred married Grace Penny on December 7, 1917 in Merrill, Saginaw County, Michigan. Fred was in the United States Infantry during WWI with Company K 339th.

  2. George Jerry Coty was born August 3, 1891 in Lakefield Township.

  3. Gilbert Frank Coty was born on July 29/31 1893 in Lakefield Township. He was killed in action during WWI on October 5, 1918 in France while serving with the United States Army 33rd Artillery.

  4. Jesse Oscar was born August 5/6 1895 in Lakefield Township. He married Eva Thayer on March 15, 1916 in St. John's, Clinton County, Michigan. He married for a second time to Jennie Ordway. Jesse died in 1974. Jesse and Jennie are both buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.

  5. Step-daughter, Anna M. Brown-Coty married David Cresswell.

 

In 1896, Fred and Maria owned and operated a 72 acre farm in Section 23 on the south side of Lakefield Road between Merrill and Chapin Roads. Fred was appointed to the Board of Elections in 1897 for Lakefield Township.
