Martin Price

MARTIN B. AND SARAH JANE “SARAH” RILEY PRICE

 

Martin B. Price was born on September 13, 1855 in New York City, New York to James and Mary Burke Price. He married Sarah Jane Maxwell on November 5, 1884 in Saginaw, Michigan. Sarah Jane Maxwell was born December 1, 1857 in Ireland.

 

Martin and Sarah had the following children:

  1. Martha Price was born on August 29, 1885. She married Seth Burnett on June 4, 1913. Martha died on January 17, 1957 in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan and is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  2. Sarah Collotta Price was born June 4, 1887 in the City of Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  3. Leo Martin J. Price was born January 1, 1889 in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan. He married Bertha Rich. Leo died on May 10, 1980 in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan and is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  4. Colitda/Clolilda L./Coll0tta Price was born May 1891.

  5. Alice M. Francis Price was born October 13, 1892 in Harrison County, Michigan. Alice was a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan in 1914. She married William B. Forney on July 28, 1925 in Genesee County, Michigan. Alice died on March 24, 1950 in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan and is buried in Mt. Olivet, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  6. Joseph “Laurel” A. Price was born December 1, 1893 in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan. Laurel served as Lakefield Constable in 1935. He died on February 27, 1976 and is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  7. Rosalia L. Price was born September 1899 in Lakefield Township. Rosalia married Ernst Garlick on August 25, 1920 and they had a child, Alice Rosalie Garlick. Alice was born in 1920 and died on November 9, 1923. Rosalia also married Allan Pinkerton. She died on May 22, 1970 in Boulder City, Clark County, Nevada.

 

In 1896, Martin and Sarah owned an 80 acre parcel of land in Section 2 on the SE corner of Merrill and Ederer Roads and a 40 acre parcel of land on Merrill Road to the south of his 80 acres. By 1916, they owned the above acreage along with 40 acres of land in Section 3 directly across the road from their 40 acres on Merrill Road. They also owned an additional 80 acres of land in Section 2 on Chapin Road between Merrill and Swan Creek Roads. Their 4 parcels of land equaled 240 acres in Sections 2 and 3 of Lakefield Township.  By 1919, Martin owned and operated 340 acres and he called his farm "The Niagara Stock Farm".  He owned 17 horses and 20 cows at Route 4 of Merrill, Michigan which was in Lakefield Township.

 

Martin served as Lakefield Township Overseer of the Highways District #6 in 1898 and Lakefield Township Treasurer in 1926.

 

Sarah died on December 7, 1914 at St. Mary's Hospital, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan and Martin died on May 21, 1935. They are both buried in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.
