WILLIAM HENRY AND MARGARET ADELINE "MAGGIE" ROBINSON SIMMON

 

 

William Henry Simmon was born May 19, 1864 in Hamilton Township, Gratiot County, Michigan. His parents were Henry and Julia Muffley Simmon, who were one of the earliest settlers of Hamilton Township, Gratiot County, Michiga. William married Margaret Adeline “Maggie” Robinson on October 17, 1888 in North Star, Gratiot County, Michigan. Her parents were George A. and Marinda Louis Richardson Robinson.

 

 

 

William and Maggie had the following children:

  1. Julia Simmon was born July 18, 1895 in Gratiot County, Michigan. She married Adolph Rosewig on November 21, 1914. Julia passed away on February 2, 1920 in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan and is buried in the Roselawn Cemetery, Saginaw, Michigan..

  2. Claude A. “Pete” Simmon was born on November 13, 1898 in Gratiot County, Michigan. He passed away on October 6, 1983 and is buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.

  3. Rhea M. Simmon was born September 30, 1904 in Lakefield Township. She married Raymond Schuette on May 25, 1927. Rhea died on November 19, 1979 and is buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.

William and Maggie moved to Lakefield Township in 1899. They owned and operated an 120 acre farm in Section 22 on the south side of Lakefield Road between Merrill and Fenmore Roads. Forty (40) acres of that property was Maggie's parents, George and Marinda Robinson's original homestead.

William served as Lakefield Township Clerk and the Director of the Maple Leaf School which was located on the corner of Lakefield and Fenmore Roads. William registered to vote on October 26, 1916. Maggie was one of the first ladies in Lakefield Township to register to vote on February 8, 1919, after the women's suffrage movement.

 

William passed away on June 20, 1949 and Maggie passed away on April 8, 1951. They are both buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.
