CORNELIUS McDONALD

CORNELIUS AND MARGARETT McDONALD

 

Cornelius McDonald was born in 1812 in New York. His parents were Simeon and Margaret Cooper McDonald. Cornelius was married the second time to Margarett McDonald.

 

Cornelius had three children by his first wife, Ann.

  1. James McDonald born in 1844 in New York

  2. Mary McDonald born in 1846 in New York

  3. Amelia “Milly” McDonald born in 1849 in New York.  Amelia McDonald Kratz died of consumption on October 20, 1873 in Detroit, 7th Ward, Wayne County, Michigan..

Cornelius lived in Lakefield Township in 1880 and sometime after 1894 moved to the City of Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. He was a widower at the time.

 

Cornelius served the following positions in Lakefield Township

 

  1. Elected Justice of the Peace 4-5-1880

  2. Appointed Overseer of Hwys in District #3 4-5-1880

  3. Elected Justice of the Peace to Fill Vacancy for 2 years 4-3-1882

  4. Elected Justice of the Peace Full Term 4-7-1884

  5. Elected School Inspector 4-7-1884

  6. Appointed Overseer of Hwys in District #3 4-7-1884

  7. Elected School Inspector 4-4-1887

  8. Elected School Superintendent 4-4-1887

  9. Elected School Superintendent 4-1-1889

  10. Elected Justice of the Peace Full Term 4-1-1889

  11. Elected Justice of the Peace Full Term 4-3-1893

James McDonald, Cornelius' son, was elected as Constable of Lakefield Township on    4-3-1882.

 

The Abstract of Title made by the Union Abstract Co., Saginaw, W.S. Michigan states the following description of Cornelius McDonald's Lakefield Township property:

"South East ¼ of South East ¼ of Section 16 Town 11 North Range 1 East in Saginaw County, Michigan.

From Government:

  1. The South East ¼ of South East ¼ of Section 16, Town 11 North Range 1 East was located on October 14, 1878 by Cornelius McDonald as appears by our Tract Book

  2. The State of Michigan – Grantor

    Cornelius McDonald - Grantee - Purchased of the State of Michigan on October 14, 1878 as appears by Certificate Number 12206 for $160.00. Signed by the Governor – Charles C. Crosswell"

 

Cornelius lived on of Fenmore Road between Roosevelt and Lakefield Roads. On March 18, 1894, Cornelius sold his property to Jeannett A. Parker.

 

Cornelius died on December 23, 1897 in the City of Detroit, 8th Ward, at 156 13th Street. At the time of his death he was a widower and only 2 of 3 children were living.
