Donald "Daniel" Hector McLeod

DONALD HECTOR '' DANIEL'' AND JANETTE MCINTOSH MCLEOD

 

Donald Hector “Daniel” McLeod was born in September 1861/1862 in East Williams, Middlesex County, OntarioCanada; his parents were Hector and Sarah McIntyre McLeod. He married Janette McIntosh on October 11, 1892 at St. Columbia R.C. Church in West Williams, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada by Rev. D.A. McRae. Janette was born on August 18, 1863 in West Williams, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada; her parents were Malcolm and Mary Curry/Currie McIntosh.

 

Dan and Janette's children were:

  1. James Daniel McLeod was born April 19, 1894 in Lakefield Township. He married Elizabeth Mary O'Melin on August 9, 1922 in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan.

  2. Twin - Hector Leo McLeod was born in September 15, 1896 in Lakefield Township. He died in June 1968 in Swartz Creek, Genessee County, Michigan.

  3. Twin – Annabelle McLeod born in 1896.

  4. Edward Francis “Edmund” was born March 11, 1900 in Lakefield Township. He married Rosanna Brunette on March 27, 1922. Edmund died on December 7, 1937 and is buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakefield Township, Merrill, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  5. Malcolm B. “Bernard” “Dean” McLeod was born July 30, 1901 in Lakefield Township. He was married to Dorothy A. Sweeny on November 2, 1928 at Sacred Heart Church in Merrill, Michigan by Daniel J. Wynne. Dean died on April 14, 1989 and is buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakefield Township, Merrill, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  6. Mary C. McLeod was born in 1904 in Lakefield Township. She married Ralph A. Diem on June 18, 1928 in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan. Mary died on April 20, 2001.

  7. Clara M. McLeod was born June 27, 1905/1907 in Lakefield Township. She married Gordon L. Isenhath on July 22, 1933 at St. Michael Church, Flint, Genesee County, Michigan.

 

Daniel and Janette owned and operated an 80 acre farm, then, expanded it to an 120 acre farm by 1916. Their property was located in Section 14 on the NE corner of Chapin and Roosevelt Roads in Lakefield Township.

 

Janette was a pioneer in regards to the women's suffrage movement, when she registered to vote on February 8, 1919 in Lakefield Township. The suffrage amendment was reintroduced on January 20, 1918, that passage of the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote, many women in Lakefield Township exhibited their great strength of character and deep patriotism by being amongst the earliest to register to vote.

 

Daniel died in 1929 and Janette died on December 30, 1942 in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan. They are both buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakefield Township, Merrill, Saginaw County, Michigan.
