SCHRAM WILLIAM VALENTINE AND MAGGIE GLINKE SCHRAM

 

William Valentine Schram was born on April 9, 1841 in Canada. His parents were Valentine and Lydia Ryckman Schram. William, his parents and siblings came Michigan from Cayuga, Haldmand County, Ontario, Canada sometime after 1851. William registered for the United States Civil War Draft at the age of 22 years in June of 1863 in Berrien County, Michigan.

 

William married Ella E. Gray on March 26, 1867 in Berrien County, Michigan by Erastas Kellog a Minister of the Gospel. Ella was from Oronoko Township, Berrien County, Michigan and her parents were Amos and Sarah Gray.

William and Ella had the following children:

  1. Lucy A. Schram was born in 1869 in Buchanan, Berrien County, Michigan. She married Thomas Tester on March 7, 1886 in Thomastown, Saginaw County, Michigan. She died in 1958 and is buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  2. Amos V. or Ava V. Schram was born on October 14, 1873 in Bertrand, Berrien County, Michigan. He married Nettie I. Smith August 25, 1906 in St. Joseph County, Indiana. Later, he married for the second time to Alice M Loshbough on July 4, 1914 in Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. Ava died on November 24, 1965 in Berrien County, Michigan and is buried in the Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, Berrien County, Michigan.

  3. Jenni Schram was born in 1876

  4. Kittie Schram was born in 1881 and died 15 August 1881 in Buchanan, Berrien County, Michigan.

Ella died on June 22 1885 in Oronoko, Berrien County, Michigan.

 

By August of 1885, William was living in Lakefield Township. He had filed for the following Chattel mortgages in Lakefield Township.

  1. Wm. Schram and George Tester as mortgagees and E.H. Smith and Brothers as the mortgagors on August 12, 1885 for $100.00

  2. Wm. V. Schram as mortgagee and E.H. Smith and Brothers as the mortgagors on December 12, 1885 for $510.00

  3. Wm. V. Schram and Valentine Schram (father) as the mortgagees and Cyrus Fauble and Sherman Balunt as the mortgagors on December 30, 1885 for $275.00.

  4. Wm. Schram as mortgagee and Theodore Snyder as the mortgagor on February 19, 1887 for $300.00.

  5. Wm. V. Schram as mortgagee and Valentine Schram as the mortgagor on September 1, 1888.

  6. Wm. Schram as mortgagee and Peter J. Conlan as the mortgagor on May 20, 1890 for $64.00.

  7. Wm. Schram as mortgagee and Lyman J. Perkins as the mortgagor on January 1, 1892 for $100.00.

William Valentine Schram married Maggie Glinke on December 25, 1886 in Lakefield Township.

 

In 1896, William owned and operated 20 acres in Section 15 on Lakefield Roads. His neighbors were: Alex Ogilivie; Frank Baker; George Robinson; David Badgero; C. Eckhart; Edward Miller.

 

William was appointed Exit Gatekeeper for the Board of Elections in Lakefield Township on 6 April 1896.

 

William died on November 2, 1928 in Buchanan, Berrien County, Michigan.
