Neil M. McInnis was born May 23, 1870 in West William Township, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada to Murdock and Ellen McPhee McInnis. Neil married Sarah E. Steele on August 1, 1901 in St. Charles, Saginaw County, Michigan to John and Sarah McCormick Steele.

Neil and Sarah had the following children:

1. John D. McInnis was born October 5, 1904. He married Noreen Jackson. John P. died March 30, 1977.

2. Catherine M. McInnis was born November 6, 1906 in St. Charles, Saginaw County, Michigan. She married Harold Schultz.

3. Elizabeth E. McInnis was born 1909

4. Sarah F. McInnis was born April 30, 1916. She married Delbert Peterson.

Neil and Sarah lived in Lakefield Township before moving to Flint, Genesee County, Michigan by 1930.
