Jessie Baker

JESSIE C. AND SARAH ANN SMITH BAKER

 

Jessie C. Baker was born in November 1860 in Vermont to John and Mary Jane Baker. Jessie married Sarah Ann Smith on January 11, 1891/1892 in Saginaw, Michigan. Sarah was born January 18, 1868 in Kochville Township, Saginaw County, Michigan. Her parents were Hugh and Elizabeth Cavanaugh Smith.

 

Jessie and Sarah's children were:

 

  1. John Henry Baker was born March 15, 1893 in Saginaw, Michigan and died January 25, 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan.

  2. Esther M. Baker was born October 20, 1894 in Lakefield Township.

  3. Joseph was born December 6, 1895 in Lakefield Township

  4. William D. (Dewey W.) Baker was born January 26, 1899 in Lakefield Township and died April 10, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan.

  5. Arthur Thaddeaus Baker was born August 23, 1900 in Lakefield Township and died February 12, 1927 in Saginaw, Michigan.

  6. Charles B. Baker was born May 21/23, 1902 in Lakefield Township.  Charles married Gertrude Andres on September 23, 1931.  He was a lifelong farmer in Maple Grove Township, Saginaw County, Michigan.   Charles died June 13, 1995 in Flint, Michigan and is buried in the St. Michael Cemetery in Maple Grove, Michigan.

  7. Frances J. Baker (Frank J.) was born August 28, 1903 in Lakefield Township and died September 26, 1992.

  8. Elizabeth Ann (Bessie) Baker was born February 4, 1906 in Lakefield Township. She married Edward Fehn on August 27, 1925 and she died October 6, 2001.

  9. Joseph Roy Baker was born June 21, 1907 in Lakefield Township and died August 12, 1907 in Lakefield Township.

  10. Andrew Baker was born November 23, 1909 in Lakefield Township and died September 8, 1910 in Lakefield Township of Cholera.

 

In 1896, Jessie and Sarah owned and operated 80 acres of land on the SE corner of Section 3 at the intersection of Merrill and Swan Creek Roads in Lakefield Township. By 1916, they had purchased an additional 80 acres making their total acreage 160 acres. Jessie and Sarah's children went to the Byrnes school which was located on the corner of Swan Creek and Fenmore Roads.

 

Jessie died May 5, 1923 and Sarah died on January 1, 1939. They are both buried in St. Andrews Cemetery, Saginaw, Michigan.
