CHARLES ELLSWORTH CONKLIN

 

CHARLES ELLSWORTH AND MARY ANN SUBER CONKLIN

 

Charles Ellsworth Conklin was born in Boonton, Morris County, New Jersey. His parents were Edward and Lucinda Vanderhoof Conklin. Charles married Mary A. Suber on December 30, 1896 in Ithaca, Gratiot County, Michigan by Justice of the Peace, James G. Kriss. Mary was born July 4, 1874 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois; her parents were Martin and Ann Suber.

 

Charles and Mary had the following children:

  1. Rose Mae Conklin was born October 14, 1898 in Merrill, Saginaw County, Michigan. She married Victor George LaDuke on November 26, 1919. Rose died on April 9, 1950 and Victor died on August 5, 1966. They are both buried in Lakefield Township Cemetery.

  2. Walter Conklin was born in February 1900 and died on August 28, 1900 in Jonesfield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan and is buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.

  3. Martin E. Conklin was born February 3, 1902 in Wheeler Township, Gratiot County, Michigan. He married Marguerite Ellen Tryon. Martin died on June 19, 1983 and Marguerite died on June 29, 1997. They are both buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.

  4. Claude E. Conklin was born in 1904 and died on October 21, 1905 in Wheeler Township, Gratiot County, Michigan.

  5. Edith Conklin was born February 23, 1904 and died on December 30, 1926 in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan at the age of 22 years old. She is buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.

 

By 1916, Charles and Mary owned and operated a 40 acre farm in Section 4 on Meridian Road between Ederer and Swan Creek Roads. Joseph Suber, Mary's brother, owned a 40 acre parcel of land next door. Mary Suber Conklin and Joseph Suber inherited their properties from their parents, Martin and Anna Suber. By 1920, Charles and Mary Suber Conklin owned both of these 40 acre parcels but are living in Wheeler Township, Gratiot County, Michigan.

 

Charles died on October 16, 1943 and Mary on February 7, 1965. They are both buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.
