George Miller Sr.

                                GEORGE AND MARY HUTCHINSON MILLER SR.

George Miller Sr. was born in October 1833 in Scotland Village, Scotland, the son of of John and Isabella Miller. He came to Lakefield Township, Saginaw County, Michigan in 1878 with his family from Walsingham Township, Norfolk County, Canada. He married Mary Hutchinson on March 20, 1860. Mary was born in 1837 in Canada to George and Orilla Hutchinson. George and Mary owned and operated 80 acres in Section 23 on the east side of Merrill Road between Lakefield and Nelson Roads, which was located on the Beaver Creek.

 

George and Mary's children were:

  1. John A. Miller was born November 29, 1861 in Ontario, Canada. John married Katie Ross on September 26, 1893 in West Bay City, Bay County, Michigan. John and Katie had two children Myrtle and Earl Miller. John died on October 10, 1944 in Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan.

  2. George M. Miller Jr. was born on February 15, 1863 in Canada. George Jr. married Lottie Mae Ogilvie on June 23, 1898. George and Lottie had three children, Wallace, Norman and Margaret. George died on December 6, 1934 and Lottie died on October 5, 1950, they are both buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.

  3. Ada H. Miller was born 1868 in Canada. Ada married Prosper Kimball on May 6, 1892 in West Bay City, Bay County, Michigan.

  4. William H. Miller was born September 26m 1870 in Canada. William married Jennie Mary Sklapsky on July 27, 1896. William and Jennie had eleven children; Ada, Arthur, William Jr., Roy, Clarence J., Leonard, Bernice, Melvin, Joseph, Earl, and Ernest. William died November 30, 1954 and Jennie died January 9, 1917; they are both buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.

 

George was appointed to fill a vacancy of the Lakefield Commissioner of Highways on December 10, 1889. George was then elected to be Lakefield Township Highway Commissioner on April 7, 1890, April 1, 1895 and April 5, 1896.

 

In 1896 George's neighbors were Wilson House, David Badgero, Joseph Shebester, Fred Coty, and Gilbert Bastedo

 

Mary died on August 27, 1892 and George died on March 19, 1905; they are both buried in the Lakefield Township Cemetery.
